Monir Hossain : Students, guardians and the general public have been suffering greatly as the important bridge adjacent to Bahria High School in Lakshmipur Model Union No. 10 of Chandpur Sadar Upazila has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Locals have drawn the attention of the concerned authorities, especially the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), to repair the bridge quickly. Bahria High School is an important educational institution of Lakshmipur Model Union.
Locals complain that various parts of the bridge have been damaged and they have to travel at risk every day. In particular, about 1,035 students studying in the school use this bridge regularly. Besides, about 350 ordinary pedestrians also travel on this road every day. Guardians and locals fear that a major accident could occur at any time due to the poor condition of the bridge.
Students, guardians and local residents of the school said that the bridge becomes more risky during the monsoon season. Considering the safety of the students, it is important to repair or rebuild the bridge quickly. Every day, hundreds of young students are risking their lives to travel to school, which is very worrying.
The locals claim that this is not just a means of communication for a school; it is also the main route for people from several nearby villages. Therefore, if the bridge is completed quickly, public suffering will be alleviated to a large extent and safe travel of students will be ensured.
When asked about this, Chandpur Sadar Upazila Engineer Md. Rahat Amin Patwari said, “The matter has come to our attention. Instructions have been given to the concerned contractor to implement the work quickly. Hopefully, the bridge repair work will be started and completed in a short time.”
The locals have urged the concerned authorities to take effective initiatives quickly, so that the safe travel of students and the general public is ensured and possible accidents can be avoided.
