A passenger bus of Nahid Super Paribahan lost control and fell into a ditch in Purba Raipur Battala area of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalakathi. An unidentified person is feared dead after being buried under the bus in the water.
The accident occurred on Sunday (July 5) at around 10:30 am.
According to police and local sources, the bus of Barisal Metro-11-0073 of Nahid Super Paribahan left for Barisal with passengers from Mathbaria in Pirojpur. On the way, an Alpha (three-wheeler) car came between the two buses while overtaking a bus coming from the opposite direction in Purba Raipur Battala area of Nalchiti police station. When the driver lost control of the bus while trying to save the Alpha car, it fell into a ditch on the side of the road.
After the accident, locals saw a hand in the water under the bus. It is feared that a person may be trapped under the bus. However, his identity could not be immediately confirmed.
Upon receiving the information, members of the fire service quickly reached the spot and started a rescue operation. The Nalchiti police station is also present at the spot and is working to conduct rescue operations and maintain law and order.
ASI Mohammad Shahin Hawlader of Nalchiti police station said, “Upon receiving the information about the accident, the police quickly reached the spot and are conducting a rescue operation in coordination with the fire service members. Detailed information about casualties and damage will be provided after the rescue operation is completed.”
