Tensions have been created over the construction of shops on the Atabari Central Idgah grounds in Birbasinda Union of Kalihati Upazila of Tangail. In this incident, there have been allegations of death threats against the General Secretary of the Idgah Ground Committee, Md. Alamgir Hossain. After the allegations, he has filed a written application with Kalihati Police Station.
According to the complaint source, on Saturday (July 4), around 9 am, the construction of shops was underway on the initiative of the community at the Atabari Central Idgah grounds. At that time, the owner of the adjacent land and local businessman Abdus Sattar Mandal came there and obstructed the construction work and Md. Alamgir Hossain was allegedly threatened in various ways.
The written complaint mentions that Abdus Sattar Mandal, a resident of Atabari village, had been occupying some areas of the Idgah grounds for a long time. Later, on the initiative of local dignitaries, the responsibility of maintaining and managing the Idgah ground was handed over to a committee and Md. Alamgir Hossain was given the responsibility of the general secretary of the committee.
The complaint further states that during the construction work, Abdus Sattar Mandal abused Alamgir Hossain in inaudible language and threatened to kill him. The complaint also claims that he was threatened to kill him if he got the chance.
Expressing concern about his own safety and that of the committee members in this incident, Md. Alamgir Hossain appealed to the officer-in-charge of Kalihati Police Station to take necessary legal action.
However, the statement of the accused Abdus Sattar Mandal was not available in this regard.
Officer-in-charge of Kalihati Police Station Qayyum Khan Siddiqui said that he has not yet received the complaint and will investigate and take necessary legal action if he receives it.
