Raid on Kalihati’s Tallai Beel, 1,300 meters of Chinese net seized and destroyed

Kalihati (Tangail) Correspondent : The upazila administration and upazila fisheries department seized about 1,300 meters of illegal Chinese fishing nets during a raid in the Tallai Beel of Kalihati upazila of Tangail. The seized nets were later destroyed by burning in public.
The mobile court was conducted under the Fisheries Conservation Act, 1950 (Amended) at Tallai Beel, located in Awlaoil village of Nagbari union of the upazila, on Monday (June 29) afternoon. Kalihati Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sayeda Khanam Liza led the operation.
During the operation, about 1,300 meters of Chinese nets, worth an estimated Tk 2 lakh, were seized. The seized nets were later destroyed by burning in public.
Kalihati Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Nasir Uddin was present at the time.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sayeda Khanam Liza said, “Native fish species are already at risk of extinction, and a group of unscrupulous people are indiscriminately killing fish, fish fry and other aquatic animals using illegal Chinese nets. This is seriously threatening the fisheries, environment and biodiversity.”
According to the Pajala administration, such campaigns against illegal nets will continue during the monsoon season to preserve native fish breeding and fry.
