The transfer of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) official Jamil Hossain to the Chittagong Truck Depot has sparked discussions and criticism within the organization. Various sources have alleged that he has abused his power in the past, bribery or alleged ‘chunni’ trade, financial irregularities and influence peddling. However, no independent investigation or court verdict has been found regarding these allegations.
Sources said that on June 17, Jamil Hossain was posted to the Chittagong Truck Depot in an order signed by BRTC General Manager (GM) Dinesh Sarkar. This transfer has raised questions within a section of the organization about how logical it is to post officials accused of controversial charges to profitable depots.
There are allegations that in the past, while serving at various depots including Barisal, Gopalganj and Bogra, he was involved in activities such as issuing fake vouchers in the name of vehicle repair, irregularities in bus operation, embezzling money in various sectors of passenger services and collecting illegal money from drivers for each trip. However, Jamil Hossain’s statement on these allegations could not be obtained.
Multiple sources claim that during the tenure of the ruling government, he used the identity of influential circles to influence BRTC and received various benefits. There are also allegations against him of acquiring illegal wealth and building luxurious houses in his own area. However, no government investigation report has been published on these allegations.
In addition, some employees alleged that if they protested against irregularities and corruption, they were threatened with dismissal. They further claimed that similar irregularities have been going on at various depots of BRTC for a long time and influential people are involved in it. The victims demanded an impartial investigation to verify the truth of these allegations.
Journalists tried to contact senior BRTC officials on this issue, but their statements could not be immediately obtained due to various administrative engagements.
It should be noted that, The above-mentioned allegations are presented based on the claims of various sources and concerned persons. If the statements of the concerned officer Jamil Hossain, BRTC Chairman and other accused persons are received regarding the allegations, they will be published later. At the same time, the concerned persons have demanded that the real truth be revealed through an impartial investigation into the issues.
