Revenge fire after death in clash, houses attacked and arson in Pangsha

A man named Jamir Biswas (55) has died while undergoing treatment in a clash between residents of two villages in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari over a dispute over dominance and land. After the news of his death spread, attacks, vandalism, looting and arson occurred at the houses of the opponents. This has caused extreme tension and panic in the entire area.
Jamir Biswas died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka around 9 pm on Sunday (June 21). The matter was confirmed by Patta Union Parishad Chairman Md. Akidul Islam.
The deceased Jamir Biswas is the son of Hossain Ali Biswas of Dhepa-Majail village of Patta union in the upazila.
According to local sources, tension arose between the residents of Dori Banglat of Kasbamajail union of the upazila and Dhepa-Majail village of Patta union on Sunday morning over a land dispute. At one stage, a clash broke out between the two sides. Three people, including Jamir Biswas, were seriously injured in the clash.
The injured Jamir Biswas was first admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Later, when his physical condition deteriorated, he was transferred to a hospital in Dhaka for better treatment. He died there during the night while undergoing treatment. The other two injured people are undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Pangsha Upazila Health Complex.
After the news of Jamir Biswas’s death reached the area, incidents of attack, vandalism, looting and arson took place at the houses of the opponents. Locals claim that at least 30 to 40 houses in Parkul, Baro Banglat and Dori Banglat villages were attacked. This has caused extensive damage to the farming families.
The deceased’s niece, Aklima Parveen, complained, “The attack was led by Akmal Hossain Tikka. My uncle was killed in this attack. We want a fair trial.” Monday (June 22)
In the countryside, many families are seen moving their household belongings to safer places in panic. A frightening situation prevails across the village after the night attack and looting. Locals said that many male members have left their homes and taken shelter in safer places.
Locals fear that fresh clashes may break out after the burial of the body. The body was in the morgue till the time of writing. The family of the deceased has informed that the body will be brought to the area after the evening.
Pangsha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Moinul Islam said, “A clash took place between the two parties over a land dispute. Additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation. The police are working to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.”
Police sources said that no case has been filed in the incident so far.
