The Ambassador of Italy to Bangladesh, Mr. Antonio Alessandro, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ms. Afroza Khanam, MP, at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism today at 1:00 PM.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution of approximately 250,000 Bangladeshi workers to the Italian economy and thanked the Government and people of Bangladesh for their valuable role.
The Hon’ble Minister highlighted the importance of increasing flight frequencies on the Dhaka–Rome route to better serve the growing Bangladeshi diaspora in Italy. In response, Ambassador Alessandro assured that appropriate measures would be explored to enhance flight connectivity between the two countries.
The Ambassador also expressed the interest of the Italian company The Edge Company in developing a Bird Control Management System (BCMS) for airports in Bangladesh. Furthermore, he elaborated on the interest of Flyon Aero in establishing a training academy aimed at enhancing the technical skills and professional capacity of Bangladeshi aviation technicians.
The Hon’ble Minister reiterated Bangladesh’s interest in working closely with Italy to advance the development of the country’s aviation sector. Discussions were also held on attracting foreign investment through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models for airport expansion and infrastructure development.
Earlier in the day, the Hon’ble Minister met with representatives of SATS, a Singapore-based aviation company. During the meeting, the representatives expressed their interest in providing ground handling services at the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The Minister invited the company to submit its proposal through the appropriate process and assured that it would receive due consideration.
