Md. Moniruzzaman:
The process of converting Mymensingh Engineering College into a university is in progress, said Abu Wahab Akand Wahid, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mymensingh-4 (Sadar) constituency and Joint Organizing Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee. He said that discussions have been held with the Education Minister on how to improve Mymensingh Engineering College. He has invited a team led by the chairman to the ministry. Hopefully, an announcement will be made to convert the college into a university within the next 6 months.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the freshers’ orientation program held at the college’s library building at 11:30 am today (Saturday).
Abu Wahab Akand Wahid also said at the event that the academic campus cannot be a campus free from politics. Students will not be able to engage in politics, this is unacceptable in a democratic country. However, political practice should be done along with studies, taking care not to spoil the college environment. Students should be given the opportunity to speak constructively for the welfare of students. Student politics should be done while maintaining etiquette. But attention should also be paid to ensure that no student is tortured in the name of Rag Day.
At this time, the MP welcomed the new students and called on the elders to stand by them.
At the event, chaired by the college chairman, Professor Dr. Engineer Md. Mizanur Rahman, Dean of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Abdul Majid, teacher Professor Dr. Md. Rustum Ali, student Robin Mollah spoke as special guests. South District Krishak Dal General Secretary Nazim Uddin Khan and Metropolitan Chhatra Dal President Govinda Roy were present at the time.
