Discussion meeting titled ‘Drug Spread – What We Can Do’ held in Pirojpur

A special discussion meeting has been held in Pirojpur to prevent the terrible spread of drugs and increase awareness on this issue. This meeting was organized at the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Auditorium on Saturday (June 20) morning.

This important discussion meeting titled ‘Drug Spread in Pirojpur – What We Can Do’ was organized by Pirojpur Press Club. The Zilla Parishad, Pirojpur, cooperated as a partner in the program.

Pirojpur Press Club President S. M. Rezaul Islam Shamim presided over the meeting calling for a social movement to eradicate drugs, and Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed was present as the chief guest. He said in his speech, “Along with the strict steps taken by the administration to prevent the spread of drugs, it is essential to build a strong social movement. Awareness against drugs must be created in every neighborhood and those involved in drugs must be socially boycotted.” The Deputy Commissioner announced that a list of drugs would be prepared and displayed publicly, saying that this would help people from all walks of life become aware of them.
He also said that the district administration has plans to set up a drug treatment center in Pirojpur and initiatives will be taken in this regard soon.

Pirojpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Manzur Ahmed Siddiqui, Additional District Magistrate Tanzila Kabir Tropa, Pirojpur District Council Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, Principal of Government Suhrawardy College Rafiqul Islam, Principal of Government Women’s College Panna Lal Roy, District BNP Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat, President of Chamber of Commerce Gazi Wahiduzzaman Lavlu and others were present as special guests at the event.

The speakers at the meeting discussed in detail the current situation of drugs in Pirojpur district, its misuse and what families and society can do to protect the youth from drugs. Special emphasis was placed on building a social movement along with the strict role of the administration in preventing the spread of drugs.

Officials of various government departments, heads of various educational institutions, local dignitaries, journalists and representatives of various social organizations were present at the meeting. The speakers expressed their commitment to work together from their respective positions to create a drug-free society.
