Mashahid Ahmed:
The land of tea is calling, the Prime Minister is coming. Every upazila town and market in Moulvibazar district has started to become filled with processions, meetings and such slogans. The arrival of the Prime Minister, the BNP party chief, is being eagerly awaited by the excited leaders and activists to see him firsthand. There is no shortage of enthusiasm among people of all classes and professions, regardless of party affiliation. The discussion is now everywhere in the district’s markets, ghats and fields surrounding the arrival of the Prime Minister in this district. BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is going on a tour of the tea country Moulvibazar and Srimangal on Wednesday (June 17) as the Prime Minister, just four months after taking office. He will fly from Dhaka to Sylhet on Wednesday morning, reach Srimangal first and then Moulvibazar Sadar by road, and will address a gathering including distributing family cards among low-income people. Meanwhile, the work of preparing the ground and constructing the stage for the two upazilas of the district has already been completed. The leaders and activists of the energized BNP and its associate organizations in the district and upazila are taking care of the beautification of the public meeting place and the surrounding areas. The local administration and law enforcement agencies and party leaders and activists are working day and night to ensure that the event runs smoothly. A festive atmosphere has been created across the district around her visit. According to the Prime Minister’s tour schedule, she will land in Sylhet from Dhaka by plane on Wednesday morning and will first arrive at the Victoria High School grounds in Sreemangal, a tea town in Moulvibazar district, by road at 1 pm and participate in a family card distribution program among 152 low-income people there. Later, she will reach the Government High School grounds in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila by road at 2:30 pm and will address a gathering organized there, including distributing family cards to 155 low-income people, who have been allocated for Rajnagar Upazila. Later, at 3:30 pm, he will rest at the local Dusai Resort and join a political meeting with party leaders there. Later, at 5:45 pm, he will leave Moulvibazar by road for Sylhet. Extensive preparations are underway in Srimangal and Moulvibazar towns for the Prime Minister’s arrival. The two venues are being decorated in a new way. The field, which became muddy due to continuous rains, is being leveled by pouring sand. Stage construction, entrance renovation, installation of security fences and beautification work are also progressing rapidly. Important roads and government establishments in the district town have also been cleaned. Meanwhile, a few days before the national election, he had said in an election rally in Ainpur area of Moulvibazar, “If you vote for the paddy, I will come as the Prime Minister if the party forms the government.” As a result, Srimangal Upazila BNP and Moulvibazar District BNP and affiliated organizations have completed all kinds of preparations for his arrival as the Prime Minister in just four months. Security arrangements have also been strengthened for the visit. Deputy Commissioner Touhiduzzaman Pabel said that all the relevant agencies, including the Special Security Force, are working in coordination to ensure the overall security of the Prime Minister. He expressed hope that all preparations will be completed within the stipulated time. The residents of the district are just as excited about the arrival of the Prime Minister in Moulvibazar. They are also raising various demands, bringing to the fore the suffering of being behind in development for almost a century and a half. The district, which is known for its capital of lemon, rubber, agar, perfume industry and tea, has contributed significantly to the remittances and revenue sent by expatriates to this district, but has been extremely neglected and deprived of development for a long time. The long-standing demands of the residents of Moulvibazar to the Prime Minister include a medical college, converting Moulvibazar government college into a university, launching Shamshernagar airport, and the proposed construction of the Sherpur bypass road via Mirpur Srimangal, said the elected members of parliament of the two upazilas. Various development proposals for the tourism area will be presented to the Prime Minister. It is learned that although the Prime Minister’s family card distribution ceremony and public meeting were supposed to be held at the Rajnagar Government Degree College campus, it has been changed to the Moulvibazar Government High School playground considering the lack of space. The concerned parties are now busy preparing the field in the adverse weather. BNP leaders, including senior officials of the administration and law enforcement agencies, are visiting the two fields. They are visiting them in phases. They are supervising various details of the overall preparation surrounding the organization of the public meeting. District Council Administrator and former General Secretary of District BNP Mizanur Rahman Mizan, District BNP Convener and former Municipal Mayor Faizul Karim Mayun and Member Secretary Abdur Rahim Ripon, Member Md. Fakhrul Islam said that after the Prime Minister’s family card distribution and the location of the public meeting was decided, all preparations are being finalized quickly. People from all walks of life in the district are eagerly waiting to welcome the Prime Minister and our party chief. Inspired by the speech given in the second election rally in this district before the last election, the people of the district voted for the candidates of the Paddy Sheaf Party (Panchaya) in all the four parliamentary constituencies of the district with huge margins, hoping for development. The people of the district, who are excited about the arrival of the Prime Minister, are demanding various developments.
