Inauguration of tree plantation program in Pirojpur: Aim to plant 250 million trees in 5 years

Pirojpur Correspondent: A tree plantation program has been formally inaugurated in Pirojpur with the aim of preserving environmental balance, combating the adverse effects of climate change and increasing greening. This initiative has been taken in the district as part of the ‘250 million tree plantation in five years’ program as per the Prime Minister’s election manifesto.

​On Saturday (June 13), Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed inaugurated the program by planting a sapling in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

​The inauguration ceremony was also attended by District Council Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, Additional District Magistrate Tanjila Kabir Tropa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan Jani, NSI Pirojpur District Joint Director Md. Mizanur Rahman and Sheikh Yakub Ali, acting forest officer of Pirojpur Forest Department.

In his inaugural speech, Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed said, “The main inauguration of the 250 million tree plantation program announced by the Prime Minister in five years has been held in Cox’s Bazar. In continuation of this, this greening program has also started in Pirojpur district. Saplings of forest, fruit and medicinal trees will be planted extensively in different parts of the district.”

​In addition to planting trees, he also emphasized on their proper care, saying, “It is not enough to just plant trees, but to ensure proper care for each tree. Along with government initiatives to protect the environment, the common people should also come forward to plant more trees spontaneously.” On the first day of the program, more than a hundred forest, fruit and medicinal tree saplings were planted in the premises of the District Commissioner’s office and its surrounding areas. According to sources from the Forest Department and the District Administration, this activity will not be limited to here. This tree plantation drive will be intensified in various educational institutions, government offices, important roads and public places in the district in phases.
