Rajeev Dey Special Correspondent : A workshop was held today in the conference room of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to inform the stakeholders about the preparation activities of ‘Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) 2026-27’ and to finalize the survey questionnaire. The workshop was organized as a joint initiative of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Department of Statistics and Information Management and Ministry of Planning. Honorable CEO of Innoglobe Travel & Tour (Innoglobe travel & tour) spoke at the workshop. Md. Dr. Md Toslim Amin Shovon.
In the workshop, the sector concerned demanded the formulation of specific policies immediately for the overall development and sustainable management of the country’s tourism sector, especially the Sundarbans and internal tourism. They said, due to lack of adequate infrastructure, proper guidelines and proper campaign, Sundarbans is not being properly presented in the world court despite huge investment.
Recently, in a discussion meeting, the speakers highlighted the tourism system of Sundarbans and the crisis of young entrepreneurs.
In the meeting expressing concern about the current situation of Sundarban travel, it is said that it is not possible to manage the tourism business in Sundarban properly throughout the year. Due to the lack of systematic guidance Sundarbans travel has now become more of a ‘picnic’ than actual tourism, which is of concern for the natural environment. Besides, the government’s decision to completely close the Sundarbans for 3 months of the year on the pretext of wildlife breeding, according to experts who have worked for a long time on the environment and this sector, is not being presented in a scientific or logical way.
The discussion mentioned the investment of hundreds of crores of rupees by the private sector in Sundarbans-centric tourism, where only tourist ships are being promoted more than promoting the world-class heritage globally. To overcome this crisis, emphasis is placed on developing the country’s domestic tourism infrastructure, reforming government regulations and ensuring efficient ‘tour guides’. The speakers mentioned that the role of guides is immense in attracting inbound or foreign tourists.
Appreciating the spontaneous participation of the youth in the country’s tourism sector in the post-Covid period, the meeting said that the youth of the country have created tourism infrastructure and logistics through small investments centered on Tanguar Haor, Rangamati, Bandarban and Sundarbans. But due to the lack of specific policies, a large number of young entrepreneurs are suffering or suffering due to the irregularities of some people. Urgent demands from the government to formulate policies to protect this young energy and their investment.
Besides highlighting the importance of Bandarban to foreign tourists, it is said that due to the current situation, problems are constantly being faced in the field of inbound tourism. He urged the government and the private sector to work together to give full potential to the country’s tourism sector.
