The preliminary results of the biennial elections of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) for the 2026-2028 term have been announced. The Election Commission officially announced the preliminary results after completing the manual counting of votes at around 1 am on Saturday after a peaceful day-long voting. According to the announced results, Dr. Md. Ali Afzal was elected as the president with 232 votes. Abdur Razzak won the senior vice president post after a fierce competition with 216 votes. The active presence of the candidates and the spontaneous participation of the voters from the beginning to the end of the election enlivened the entire process.
Mohammad Akhter Biswas got 250 votes for the post of vice president-1, Abu Khalid Md. Barkatullah was elected with 255 votes and A.F.M. Ubaidullah was elected with 234 votes for the post of Vice President-3. Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid won the post of Vice President for Finance with 262 votes. In addition, Mohammad Morshedul Hasan attracted special attention by being elected as the Vice President of Chittagong Region with a maximum of 317 votes.
Mohammad Labib Billah took the top position with 338 votes for the post of Director, which is one of the highest votes received in this election. Umme Jahan Arju and Habibur Rahman Habib secured the second and third positions respectively with 304 votes for the same post.
Other directors elected include— A.Z.M. Kamruddin, Captain Md. Shah Alam, Md. Khwaja Nazibullah, Sheikh Kamal, Md. Emdadul Hossain Sohel, Dr. N. Joha, Alhaj Professor Md. Faruk Ahmed, Tasnova Mahbub Salam, Md. Zahir Ahmed, Md. Zahid Hossain, Engineer Md. Mostafa Kamal, Md. Emdadul Haque, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, M Fakhrul Islam, Engineer Manjurul Farhad Philip, Suruj Sardar and Alhaj Golam Kibria Majumder.

2 directors were elected from Chittagong, ASM Abdul Gaffar Miyaji and Sarist Binte Nur. In addition, 6 members of the Rehab Chittagong Regional Committee were elected, respectively, Nur Mohammad, Eng. SK Nazim Uddin, Syed Irfanul Alam, Ashish Roy Chowdhury, Hrishikesh Chowdhury and SM Shahidullah.
Three panels participated in the election. Progressive Housing Businessmen Council won a total of 15 positions, including President, Senior Vice President, Vice President (Finance), Vice President-2 and Vice President-3 and 10 directors. On the other hand, the Housing Businessmen’s Unity Council won 14 posts including Vice President-1 and Vice President (Chittagong) and 12 directors. No one from the Jagran panel could win.
They expressed their expectation that the new leadership will work with all stakeholders in the housing sector – developers, buyers, investors and related government and private institutions. They hope that through united efforts, practical solutions will be found to various problems including long-standing policy complications, high registration costs, bank loan restrictions and slow approval processes.
In addition, there is an expectation that the new committee will take effective steps to create a business-friendly and investment-friendly environment, ensure modern urbanization and increase affordable housing opportunities for the common people. According to the concerned quarters, through coordinated initiatives and visionary leadership, new momentum will be created in the housing sector and there will also be a positive impact on the country’s economy.
