Desk News: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar said that adequate security measures have been taken to ensure that the Eid pilgrimage of people who are staying home during the upcoming Eid is smooth.
He said that a large part of the city dwellers will go outside Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their loved ones. We have taken necessary preparations to ensure that their Eid pilgrimage is smooth and safe.
The Acting Commissioner said this during a briefing at the DMP Media Center today, Sunday.
This information was given today in a press release signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
At that time, Md. Sarwar said that adequate security plans have been taken around the four bus terminals, launch terminals and railway stations in the capital for maintaining law and order and for the convenience of the public. Detective police will be deployed alongside uniformed police to stop passenger harassment and excessive fare collection. Police control rooms and watch towers will be set up at all these terminals.
In addition to Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations, 100 CCTV cameras have been installed at three bus terminals. In addition to the regular deployment of traffic police, about 600 additional manpower has been deployed.
To prevent illegal vehicles from plying the roads, regular mobile courts are already being run with the help of the traffic department. Nine mobile courts will be run at bus and launch terminals under the supervision of judicial and executive magistrates to prevent excessive fare collection, ticket black marketing and passenger harassment.
To avoid disruption during the Eid pilgrimage, trucks, covered vans and lorries will be banned from operating on the highway from March 17 to 23.
However, vehicles carrying essential food items, perishable goods, export goods, medicines, fertilizers and fuel will be exempted from this.
From March 16, to facilitate the movement of vehicles related to Eid Yatra, the DMP has requested that the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (Kuril to Abdullahpur), Dhaka-Chittagong Highway (Gulistan to Signboard), Dhaka-Aricha Highway (Arang Crossing to Aminbazar), Dhaka-Keraniganj Highway (Phulbaria to Tantibazar to Babubazar Bridge, Dhaka-Mawa Highway (Gulistan to Buriganga Bridge), Mohammadpur Basila Crossing to Basila Bridge Road, Abdullahpur to Dhour Bridge Road and Fulbaria to Sadarghat Launch Terminal Road be avoided and alternative roads be used.
Special instructions have been issued for public transport owners and workers, and separate meetings have been organized with the concerned at four bus terminals to follow these instructions.
Our request to the esteemed passengers, general public and pedestrians is to avoid risking their lives in any way. Do not travel. Refrain from eating anything offered by strangers on the way and keep cash and belongings in your custody while traveling.
Additional traffic police personnel will be deployed to keep the roads leading out of Dhaka and the roads entering and leaving Dhaka free.
The acting commissioner of DMP has requested people to refrain from motor racing in the empty capital. To prevent motor racing and speed limit violations, DMP mobile courts will be operated in Purbachal Expressway, Banani to Abdullahpur Road and Gulshan areas. Before leaving Dhaka for Eid, close circuit cameras should be installed in houses/flats and the installed cameras should be kept operational, adequate lighting should be maintained around the houses and for police assistance at any time, the acting commissioner of DMP has requested people to contact the nearest police station or the national emergency service 999.
