Panchagarh in 19 candidates file nominations for two seats

On the last day of filing nominations for two seats in Panchagarh in the 13th National Parliament election, 19 candidates have filed their nominations in a festive atmosphere. Along with the main political parties, there are also alliance and independent candidates. Among them, there are 8 candidates in Panchagarh-1 and 11 candidates in Panchagarh-2.

The candidates submitted their nominations to the returning officer on Monday (December 29).

Among the candidates for Panchagarh-1 are BNP-nominated Central BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Naushad Zamir, and NCP’s Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam as the candidate of the 11-party alliance. However, Rashed Pradhan, spokesperson of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), a partner in the same alliance, has also filed his nomination for this seat. In addition, a total of 8 candidates have submitted their nominations, including Bangladesh JSD Central Committee General Secretary and former MP Nazmul Haque Pradhan and Labor Party Ferdous Alam.

On the other hand, BNP nominated Central Committee Rural Development Affairs Secretary and District BNP Member Secretary Farhad Hossain Azad and Jamaat-e-Islami nominated 11-party alliance candidate Safiul Alam Sufi, a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami Working Committee and former Upazila Chairman, have also submitted their nominations for Panchagarh-2 constituency. At the same time, Rashed Pradhan, spokesperson of JAGPA, another partner of the 11-party alliance, has also submitted his nominations for this seat.

In addition, a total of 11 candidates have submitted their nominations, including Engineer Mahmud Hossain Sumon, former District BNP President and son of late MP Mozahar Hossain, and Rahimul Islam Bulbul, former convener and expelled leader of Debiganj Upazila BNP.

Candidates who have filed nominations have expressed optimism about winning the upcoming elections.

Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Kazi Sayemuzzaman said that all nomination papers will be scrutinized on 3 January .
