Kabir Hossain, Rajbari: A rare guest bird fair is being held in the pond-side garden of Ajit Kumar Karer’s house in Shibrampur village of Banibah Union in Rajbari Sadar Upazila. Hundreds of people are rushing to see this charming scene every day. The entire village has become filled with the chirping of birds, and Shibrampur is filled with joy with the flapping of the wings of thousands of guest birds.

On Wednesday (November 5) afternoon, it was seen on site that the Forest Department has put up a warning signboard in front of the house. Numerous guest birds have built their nests in the coconut, betel nut and various trees by the pond. Some are taking pictures, some are making videos – the atmosphere of the festival is now all over the village. Bucks, white snails and black pankauri birds are flying from one branch to another. The egg shells lying on the pond-side indicate that not only a shelter but also a safe place for breeding has been created here.

Minu Begum of Banibah village said, “I heard that many birds have come to Karbari, so I came to see them with my grandchildren. I have never seen so many birds together, it is truly heart-warming.”

Local Abdus Salam said, “Hundreds of people come to see birds every day. Earlier, some children tried to catch birds, but now everyone is aware. Our village is now more beautiful because of these birds.”

Akash Kar, a member of Karbari, said, “The birds have settled here because the area is quiet and peaceful. Last year, there were few birds, but this year the number has increased several times. Waking up every morning to their chirping is a unique feeling. Those who did not know Shibrampur before, now know our village because of these birds.”

Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akhter said, “All kinds of measures will be taken to protect the guest birds. Instructions have been given to the concerned including the Forest Department to ensure that the birds can move freely.”

Mir Sayedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajbari Social Forestry Department, said, “Visitor birds play an important role in maintaining the balance of the environment. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure that no one can scare or harm the birds.”

This bird fair in Rajbari has become a unique example of the coexistence of nature and humans. In the words of the locals, “These birds are not only beautiful, but also a symbol of our environmental awareness.”
