Md. Kamrul Hasan:
At the hearing on the draft seat allocation for the 13th National Parliament election, BNP Central Committee’s Deputy International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana stood in favor of cutting Budhanti and Chandura unions of Bijoynagar Upazila from Brahmanbaria 3 parliamentary constituencies and misled the Election Commission by providing false information. BNP leaders and activists of Budhanti Union of Bijoynagar Upazila, her birthplace, held a torchlight procession with the participation of people from all walks of life, including members of the BNP and its affiliates.
Hundreds of people from Budhanti Union held a torchlight procession on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Budhanti Bus Stand in Budhanti Union of the upazila at 8 pm on Friday, organized by former General Secretary of the Union Jubo Dal, Md. Mizanur Rahman.
They said that if Barrister Rumin Farhana, the joint international affairs secretary of the BNP central committee, had cherished his ancestral home in Budhanti Union, he would have tried to understand the emotions of the people of this union. Instead, he has stood against the people by showing his thumbs up to everyone’s wishes for his own benefit. Standing against the people can never be the work of a real politician.
The protesters demanded that Budhanti and Chandura Unions be returned to the previous Brahmanbaria 3 parliamentary constituency without delay, taking into account the hopes and aspirations of the people of this area.
Present at the event were Bijannagar Upazila BNP Convening Committee member Mohammad Ali, Budhanti Union BNP President Md. Mahbubur Alam, General Secretary Rastu Mia, Joint General Secretary Azizur Rahman Helal, Budhanti Union Jubo Dal President Md. Kamal Mia, General Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman, Bijonnagar Upazila Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Sajjad Hossain Khokon, Bijonnagar Upazila Krishak Dal General Secretary Ratan Molla, Budhanti Union Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Monir Molla, Budhanti Union Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Shamim Fakir, among others.
It is learnt that the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday (September 4) published the list of redrawn boundaries of 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. In this, Budhanti and Chandura unions of Bijoynagar Upazila, which are included in the 3 constituencies of Brahmanbaria, were cut out and included in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. Locals have been expressing anger since the publication of the list in protest of the EC’s decision.
