He said that on Monday (August 25) afternoon, based on a secret tip-off, members of Koyra station conducted a raid in the Ghat area adjacent to Ghari Lal Bazar on the Kapotaksha River in the Sundarbans. During the raid, a motor-driven wooden boat was searched and 850 kg of crabs illegally harvested from the Sundarbans were seized.
However, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the smugglers abandoned the boat and fled. Due to this, no one could be arrested. Later, the seized crabs were handed over to the Kobadak Forest Office.
The Coast Guard said that such operations will continue in the future to protect the country’s forest and marine resources.
Confirming the matter, Divisional Officer (DFO) of Sundarbans West Forest Division AZM Hasanur Rahman told BSS that the Forest Department and other forces are actively taking action against poachers and smugglers in the Sundarbans. Immediate action is being taken if any kind of criminal activity is detected.
