2 killed, 5 injured in truck-autorickshaw head on collision in Joypurhat

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-powered autorickshaw in the Bankhur area of ​​the Joypurhat-Panchbibi road. At least 5 more were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred at around 2 pm today (July 7).
The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Touhid Hossain. His home is in Panchbibi upazila. The other deceased is an unidentified woman and her home is said to be in Birnagar village of the same upazila.

Three of the injured have been identified. They are Shefali, Basanti and Keshomani of Birnagar village in Panchbibi upazila. The identities of the remaining injured are not yet known. The injured have been rescued and admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital in Joypurhat.

According to police and local sources, an autorickshaw carrying passengers from Birnagar area of ​​Panchbibi was coming towards Joypurhat town on Tuesday afternoon. On the way, when it reached the Bankhur area of ​​the Joypurhat-Panchbibi road, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the autorickshaw from the front. As a result, the autorickshaw was twisted and twisted, and the driver Touhid and a female passenger were killed on the spot. At that time, more passengers in the autorickshaw were seriously injured. After the accident, the local crowd blocked the deadly truck.

Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Alam Siddiqui confirmed the incident and said that upon receiving the information, police and fire service personnel quickly went to the spot and recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them to the Joypurhat Modern District Hospital morgue for autopsy. At the same time, the injured were rescued and admitted to the hospital. Currently, traffic on that road is normal and legal proceedings are underway in this regard.
