Mymensingh Correspondent:

A clash between two factions of the labor party in Mymensingh has created tension. 2 labor party leaders and a CNG driver were injured in the incident. This is causing anger and dissatisfaction among the workers.

The clash and beating between the two conflicting parties took place on Monday (April 20) afternoon in the area adjacent to the city’s jail gate.

The injured are – Ward 2 labor party president and CNG autorickshaw driver Md. Ramzan Ali (45) and CNG autorickshaw driver Md. Rashed (24). The injured are currently undergoing treatment at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Confirming the truth of the incident, the president of the Metropolitan Workers’ Party, Md. Shahidul Islam Dulal, said that recently the local administration ordered the removal of the CNG stand from the Town Hall area and its installation in the area adjacent to the jail gate in order to ease the traffic congestion in the city. Then, when the CNG stand was installed there, the joint general secretary of the divisional workers’ party, Debrabrata Das Dukul, blocked it by demanding daily extortion. When the drivers argued about this, at one point a group of terrorists led by Dukul attacked the drivers and left two drivers bleeding.

He also said that the drivers are fed up with Dukul’s extortion in the city’s CNG sector. Protests including blockades have taken place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in protest of these incidents. When an extortion case was filed in these incidents, Dukul has recently become reckless again after being released on bail.

However, denying these allegations, the workers’ party leader Debrabrata Das Dukul said, “We recently rented a place from the district sports organization and set up a CNG stand in the stadium area.” This led to a fight between drivers. I did not attack anyone, but rather I was attacked.

In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police of Mymensingh District Police Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said, “I have heard that one person was injured in the fight between the two parties. The police are working to investigate the incident. Details will be known later.”
