Youth dies in police custody: SI arrested, three-member committee to investigate

Intense excitement has started surrounding the death of a young man Abdullah (26) in police custody in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria. Following the complaint, SI Mohiuddin, in-charge of Salimganj Police Camp, was temporarily suspended and arrested. Later, he was sent to jail through the court. A three-member investigation committee formed by the district administration has already started its work. The autopsy report found injury marks on the forehead, hands and various parts of the body of the deceased, said Executive Magistrate Prince Sarkar, who was in charge at the scene. The younger brother of the deceased, Shakil Mia, has filed a murder case with Nabinagar Police Station, naming four people as the plaintiff and 20-25 unknown people as accused. The accused named are SI Mohiuddin, Rabbi, Masud Rana and Tobi Mia. The family alleges that Abdullah was detained at the Salimganj police camp for four days with the permission of the OC in exchange for a large sum of money. He later died as a result of torture, they claim. Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Obaidur Rahman said that SI Mohiuddin has been suspended and arrested. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Md. Ehteshamul Haque said that a drive is underway to arrest the other accused in the case.
