Younger brother sentenced to life imprisonment for killing elder brother

The court sentenced the younger brother to life imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 taka for killing the elder brother due to a family dispute, and sentenced him to 6 months of unpaid work.
The convicted accused Md Omar Farooq Babu is the son of Samchul Haque of Sonapur area of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari.

He announced the verdict. Accused Md Omar Farooq Babu was present in the court during the pronouncement of the verdict, after which he was sent to jail. Case Session No-60/2011, GR Case No-88/2010. Additional Public Prosecutor Md. Abu Bakr Mia was the lawyer for the state and Md. Moslem Uddin Khan was the lawyer for the accused. The verdict was delivered after a long hearing by the lawyers of the state side and the accused side.

According to the case and court sources, two brothers Salim, the elder son of Samchul Haque and Omar Farooq Babu of Sonapur area under Baliakandi police station of Rajbari district had an argument at their home on the night of 27th September 2010 (Monday). At one stage of the incident, Omar Farooq Babu hit his brother on the head with a stick, and when he bled from the head, he was taken to Baliakandi Upazila Health Complex and referred to Faridpur Hospital for better treatment. Later on the evening of 30th September, Salim died. In this incident, the wife of Selim, who was killed, filed a case against Omar Farooq Babu in Baliakandi police station, whose case is No. 01 dated 2nd October 2010.
