On the occasion of World Environment Day celebrations in Mymensingh, a colorful rally, balloon flight and discussion meeting and award distribution were held under the motto “Let’s all join in solving plastic pollution” and “Let’s work together, stop plastic pollution”. On the morning of June 05 (Monday), a discussion meeting was held in the auditorium of language soldier Abdul Jabbar of Zilla Parishad. Under the chairmanship of Mymensingh District Commissioner Md. Mostafizar Rahman and moderated by Deputy Director of Environment Department Abdullah Al Mansoor, Divisional Commissioner Md. Shafiqur Reza Biswas spoke as the chief guest. DIG of Range Devdas Bhattacharya, Chief Executive Officer of Mymensingh City Corporation Md. Yusuf Ali, Superintendent of Police Machum Ahmed Bhuya spoke as special guests in the discussion meeting. The speakers said that the use of non-decomposing plastic in daily life is increasing gradually which harms soil, water, atmosphere, wildlife, human health. It has long-term negative impact on biodiversity and has become a major challenge in environmental protection. So we all need to stop using plastic products now. Dilruba Ahmed, director of Department of Environment, Mymensingh, gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the program. Local Government Joint Secretary Farid Ahmed spoke as the chief negotiator. At the end of the discussion, among the 300 students who participated in the drawing competition, 100 winners were awarded certificates, mementos and a sapling each. At this time, other officials of the Department of Environment, conscious citizens, students and parents of various educational institutions and journalists in print and electronic media were present.
