The Federation’s central president Advocate Atiqur Rahman and central general secretary Laskar Md. Taslim have expressed deep concern, strong condemnation and protest over the terrorist attack on Md. Solaiman Hossain, the president of Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna district and candidate for the post of chairman of Failjana Union of Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation.
In a joint statement, they said that the planned attack, beating, vandalism of business establishments and robbery of cash on a responsible labor leader in Chatmohar Upazila is highly condemnable and worrisome. Such incidents create unrest in the society and challenge the rule of law.
The statement mentioned that on the afternoon of June 17, Md. Solaiman Hossain and some of his labor leaders and activists were on their way home after Maghrib prayers when a group of miscreants stopped them and attacked them. According to the complaint, the attackers used iron rods, bamboo sticks and wooden batons to ambush them. In this, Solaiman Hossain and his colleague Moniruzzaman were seriously injured. Later, local people rescued them and admitted them to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex.
They also said that the allegations that some of the accused entered the business establishment of Ward No. 2 President Firoz Ali in the same union on the same evening and beat him, vandalized and snatched cash from the cash box are also very serious, planned and condemnable. The victims of this incident have filed a written complaint with the police station and demanded legal action against those involved through a fair investigation.
Advocate Atiqur Rahman and Laskar Md. Taslim said, “Attempts to obstruct the independent activities of workers’ rights through terrorist attacks and intimidation of workers’ leaders and activists cannot be accepted in any way. We strongly demand the relevant administration to immediately conduct an impartial investigation into the incident, arrest the real culprits and ensure exemplary punishment against them, and wish the injured a speedy recovery and call on the administration to take effective steps to ensure the safety of workers’ leaders and activists.”
