In the face of protests by job seekers and garment workers, a holiday has been announced in more than half a hundred factories in the industrial area of Ashulia.
These factories on both sides of the road from Bypile to Jirabo were declared closed on Wednesday (September 4) around 10 am.
According to the industrial police, the workers went to the factory as usual in the morning. But when they started protesting for various demands without work, the authorities announced one factory holiday after another.
Later, when the workers went out in front of the factories that continued production and started protesting and pelting bricks, a holiday was declared in those factories as well. At least 50 large and small garment factories in Ashulia have been declared closed till 10:30 am.
It can be seen up to Jirabo on Abdullahpur-Bypail road, when the factory holiday was announced, the workers took up positions at various points in a scattered state. This caused severe traffic jam on the road. However, members of the Industrial Police, Army and BGB are working to control the situation.
Police Superintendent of Industrial Police-1. Sarwar Alam said that in the face of workers’ protests, the authorities were forced to declare at least 50 factories including Hamim and Sharmin on both sides of the road up to Jirabo area of the Bypail-Abdullahpur road. Workers are still on the road, we are trying to keep the situation normal.
