The United States and Iran have finally agreed to a peace deal. On the other hand, it has been decided to stop military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, “immediately and permanently.” As a result, it is hoped that the war in the Middle East that has been going on for more than three months may end.
AFP news agency reports.
The mediator country Pakistan first announced this. Later, Washington and Tehran also confirmed the matter. The formalities of signing the agreement are scheduled to be completed in Switzerland on June 19.
In a post on social media on his 80th birthday on Sunday, US President Donald Trump wrote, “A deal has been made with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He also said, “I am authorizing the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz without any tolls or additional fees, and at the same time, I am ordering the immediate lifting of the blockade imposed by the United States Navy.”
Trump said, “Let all ships of the world resume their voyages. Let the oil flow normally.
Shortly after this, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi said on state television that the agreement marked an “immediate end” to the ongoing war between the two countries.
He added that the two sides would resume talks within two months to reach a final agreement.
Earlier, Tehran had threatened to respond to Israel’s attack on the Iranian-backed organization Hezbollah on the outskirts of Beirut. This raised concerns that the ongoing negotiation process would collapse.
However, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif later announced that “both sides have decided to immediately and permanently cease military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.”
He thanked the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their support in the mediation process.
