A Upazila-level coordination meeting was held in Kurigram under the chairmanship of Friendship Regional Coordinator Abdus Salam with the aim of establishing the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups, ensuring their active participation in social inclusion and sustainable development.
The Upazila-level coordination meeting was held at Zaman Inn Hotel and Suites in Kurigram city at 10:30 am on Tuesday (June 24).
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Additional Responsibilities) Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ariful Islam was present as the chief guest at the event.
Upazila Social Service Officer Mashiur Rahman, Additional Agriculture Officer Dipu Roy, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Jasim Uddin, Holokhana Union Chairman Rezaul Karim Reza, General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Pratima Chowdhury and others were present as special guests.
Project Manager Labibul Islam presented a power point presentation on Friendship’s active project. Regional Manager Ashraful Islam Mallick highlighted the disaster management activities.
The program was moderated by Zillur Rahman.
Officials from various government departments, public representatives, development workers, civil society representatives, journalists and project-related individuals participated in the meeting. Various issues related to education, healthcare, social security, employment, improvement of the quality of life of the vulnerable population, and increasing participation in the decision-making process were discussed in the meeting.
The speakers said that in order to involve the backward groups of the society in mainstream development, coordination between government and private initiatives should be increased. At the same time, emphasis was placed on increasing awareness about their rights and further strengthening capacity building activities.
The participants in the meeting called for taking coordinated initiatives to improve the quality of life of the vulnerable population, prevent child marriage and reduce social inequality.
At the end of the meeting, a determination was expressed to further strengthen mutual cooperation and coordination between the relevant parties, so that active empowerment of the vulnerable population and sustainable development can be ensured.
