The Barura Upazila administration has stopped work on the construction of a new road on the Barura Bazar-Chandina Road in Sadar Bazar of Barura Municipality in Barura Upazila of Comilla district due to allegations of irregularities. It is learned that when allegations were raised that the road was being constructed with an 18.5-foot width instead of the prescribed 20-foot width, Barura Upazila Executive Officer Nu Mong Marma Mong inspected the scene and ordered a temporary stop to the work due to non-compliance with the walk order. Barura Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Ahmed Hafiz, Municipal Naib Md. Bahar Uddin, journalist and many others were present at the time. We are working day and night to develop Barura. At this time, he said that the space for road construction must be ensured as per the design. Work can be resumed only after the shops are removed.
The demolition of the shops along the road has already started. The upazila administration has instructed the contractor to resume work if the site is vacated within the next week.
