Two people have been sentenced to prison in an anti-drug operation in Debidwar, Comilla. They were convicted of drug consumption in a mobile court operation conducted in the Pannar Pul area of ​​the municipality on April 04 (Saturday). According to the mobile court sources, in this operation conducted on the basis of secret information, Md. Atiq (30), father- Joynal Abedin and Md. Ruhul Amin, father- Abdul Quddus—both were arrested red-handed while consuming drugs. Both of them live in Bhinglabari area of ​​Debidwar upazila. After the arrest, a mobile court was set up on the spot and they were convicted under Section 36(5) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. The court sentenced each of them to 02 (two) months of non-commissioned imprisonment. The drive was conducted by Debidwar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Faisal Uddin. At that time, members of the law enforcement agencies were present and provided all-round cooperation. In this regard, the Executive Magistrate said that such drives will continue regularly to protect the society from the dangers of drugs. He also said, “Drugs are a social disease. The administration is working on a zero tolerance policy to eradicate it. Drug-related crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstances.” Local residents welcomed such steps of the administration and said that if regular drives are conducted, the spread of drugs in the area will reduce and the young society will be protected. It is to be noted that as part of the government’s strengthening of anti-drug activities, regular drives are being conducted through mobile courts in different parts of the country. Maintaining its consistency in Debidwar too, such a strict stance of the administration is having a positive impact on the locals.
