Desk News: The tribunal has framed charges against Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter in a case filed in the rape and murder of child Ramisa Akhter (8) in the capital’s Pallabi.
The trial of the case has officially begun as a result of the framing of charges.
Today, Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin framed charges against them. At the same time, the tribunal set Tuesday as the date to take testimony in the case.
On May 19, Ramisa Akhter, a second-grade student of Popular Model High School, was raped and killed in a house adjacent to Millat Camp under Pallabi police station.
Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed a case with Pallabi police station on May 20. Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter were made accused in the case.
Later, the police arrested them.
On May 20, the main accused in the case, Sohel Rana (30), confessed to the crime in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid.
On the same day, the court also ordered Sohel’s wife Swapna Akhter (26) to be sent to prison.
After the investigation, the investigating officer of the case and SI of Pallabi Police Station Ahiduzzaman submitted a chargesheet against them in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque on May 24.
On the same day, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal took cognizance of the chargesheet.
