In grammatical terms, the short definition of politics is “the king of policies.” Throughout history, the synonym for the word politics has come to mean a group of people who lead the class struggle in society.
Looking back a little, there is a positive road map of politics in history, from the Mughal rule to the Pakistan rule. This road map has a rich, bloody history embedded in it that has inspired ordinary people to fight to the death to achieve their own rights. Millions of struggling people of this land have won the battles and struggles to realize the true demands of the nation in exchange for sacrifice. At the same time, their successors have been following the struggles of their predecessors as a guide for hundreds of years. The proud history of struggle of our ancestors continues to inspire the Bengali nation and help it play a leading role in achieving its goals. The rise of Islam in the Indian subcontinent, also known as Hindustan, began with the adventurism of Arab, Persian, and Mongolian warriors, as well as the Sufi saints who preached Islam. At the same time, to escape the discrimination of the upper caste Hindu Brahmins, the lower caste or Scheduled Caste Hindu community took refuge in large numbers under the banner of Islam in the hope of peace and a peace without discrimination. They were initially seduce by the communist ideology of Islam. Gradually, Hindustan, once a holy land of Hinduism, came under the control of Muslim rulers. Later, history mentions that domestic disputes, palace conspiracies, secret assassinations, and attempts to ascend the throne among Muslim rulers were among the reasons for the downfall of Muslim rulers. In the 18th century, British merchants first came for commercial purposes, but through a secret palace conspiracy, the defeat of the last independent Nawab of Bengal, SirajDaula, brought the first dark shadow of political curse to the region. During the bloody struggle of 190 years of British colonial rule, the subcontinent was liberal from its first subjugation in 1947, thanks to the non-cooperation movement of patriotic heroes and the sacrifices of people of all religions and castes for the motherland. After the partition of the country, the East Pakistan Student Society played a key role in the struggle of the students and the masses in the first language movement in 1949. The final victory of the language movement in 1952 made the Bengali nation known as a part of history as a nation that conquered death and was infinitely courageous. Since then, the student community of this country has become a valuable part of history in all struggles as the ideal children of the Bengali nation in world history. To commemorate the contribution of the student community, they are honor as heroes in celluloid tapes, films, literature, theater, and even in art and culture. The way the courage, character, talent, heroism, and sacrifice of the student community were present in the most popular entertainment medium, film, still holds a place of excellence in the hearts of the Bengali nation.
After watching many timeless films, students would imagine themselves in the shoes of struggling soldiers. Some would also wonder if they could have been a part of the past struggles. In the organized struggles of 1962, 1966, 1969, 1970 and 1971, the student community was a symbol of the love, faith and trust of the people of the country, so we got an independent country, flag and language. On the other hand, thanks to the great idealists and patriots like MaulanaHamid Khan Bhasani, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Sher-e-Bangla A.K Fazlul Haque, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bengali nation has learned to stand tall with its own identity in the world today. For several years after Bangladesh gained independence, the faith and trust of the general people in the student community remained steadfast. The mass uprising of 1990, the struggle of the student community to achieve the right to vote in 1996 and 2005 are part of a glorious history. A review of history shows that after the successful conclusion of each movement, the students returned to their respective places, and therefore, even today, the student leaders of that time have retained a place in the hearts of the people but times have changed, and politics has also changed. Over time, the ruling class of this country has transformed a positive and unprofitable profession into a pilgrimage of commercial profits through the gradual evolution of politics. For the current generation, politics is a lucrative profession without capital or hard work. Especially since 2014, real politics has lost its dignity and has taken a dirty and stinking place due to the influence of black money and negative behavior of professionals and non-political people in politics. The situation is such that from grassroots activists to true and dedicated politicians at the center, they have lost their self-respect and suffered from depression under the influence of these apolitical villains, and some have even been forced to retire from politics forever. Moreover, with the change of power, the ruling party changed the definition of real politics. They were immerse in their nefarious influence, use of black money, corruption, bid rigging &neglect of party members, party grouping, and activities beyond political etiquette. As a result, one party, exploiting the accumulated anger of the people, transformed the public anger into a rebellion, resulting in historic changes like the August 24 Revolution, which today has become part of history and some garbage in the government is able to turn small demands like anti-discrimination demands into movements to overthrow the government. It is true that how did a demand against discrimination turn into a student movement to overthrow the government. Who financed one side of the revolution? What is the source of the sophisticated lethal weapons used in the movement? How did a foreign conspiracy succeed while eluding the eyes of the government’s intelligence department? The answers to thousands of such questions to be known, only the fallen government can answer why the students and the public were forced to participate in the movement due to the accumulated anger of the people. After the fall of the government in the 24 coup, the people expected that the demands of the people would be truly reflected at all levels of the country and that politics would return to its normal course in a new form but even though years have passed, the storm of disaster in the political sky has not yet passed. The people, who took to the streets with their trust and confidence, expecting change at all levels of government, have completely failed to fulfill their expectations due to their incompetence and immaturity. The huge gap between public expectations and achievements will force students and the public to consider alternatives, and signs of this are already visible. The current interim government and its allied political organizations have certainly not forgotten why the recently fallen fascist government, despite being a powerful political government was forced to relinquish power in the face of popular protests. History has witnessed that revolution is synonymous with counter-revolution, which has proven over the ages.
