On the first day of the 72-hour blockade called by the BNP in Tangail, three people were injured in a clash between two groups during the Awami League’s anti-blockade march on Tuesday (October 31). The injured have been admitted to Tangail General Hospital. The injured are the general secretary and former councilor of Awami League, Ward No. 3 of the municipality. Helal Fakir (55), his son Ibrahim Fakir (23) and the president of that ward, Humayun Rashid Akand Sonar’s cousin. Abdullah Akand (32). The collision took place in front of Yakub’s motor garage adjacent to the district sub-registry office on Zilla Parishad Road on Tuesday afternoon. Eyewitnesses said that BNP’s 72-hour anti-blockade march on Tuesday morning, the president of Ward No. 3 Md. Humayun Akand Sona and General Secretary Md. Helal Fakir takes his followers. On the way back from the anti-blockade rally on the Bangabandhu Bridge-Dhaka highway, the followers of general secretary Helal Fakir, while walking to the old bus stand of the city, had a discussion about trivial matters with the workers of the president Humayun Rashid Akand’s gold motorcycle fleet. In this, some motorcycles from both sides fell on the road and some workers were slightly injured. Immediately, city Awami League president and city mayor SM Sirajul Haque Alamgir made a compromise between the two sides. President Humayun Rashid Akand Sonar Akand’s cousin Md. in front of the alleged seresta of Ward General Secretary Helal Fakir in the court premises due to the incident on Tuesday afternoon. Abdullah Akand was restrained and beaten. On hearing the news, the president’s followers went to the spot and attacked Helal Fakir’s followers. General secretary Helal Fakir and his son Ibrahim Fakir and the president’s cousin Md. Abdullah Akand was injured. In this regard, Ward President Humayun Rashid Akand Sona said that he participated in the anti-blockade party march with hundreds of motorcycles and followers. The first incident was immediately resolved by the municipal mayor. He was on his way home when his opponents attacked him. Later his followers counterattacked to protect him. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail police station Mohammad Abu Chalam Mia said that the police have been sent to the spot after receiving the information. None of the two parties have made any complaint in this incident. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received. Disclosure, there has been a long-standing dispute between Ward No. 3 Awami League President Humayun Rashid Akand Sona and General Secretary Helal Fakir over the spread of party dominance at the local level. Earlier, the general secretary’s son Ibrahim Fakir stabbed and injured the nephew of the president of the same ward. The dispute between the two came to light from that incident.
