In addition to the development of legal education, this educationist, who is dedicated to the development of education and research, established Rabindra Maitree University in Kushtia in 2015 without taking a break in his working life. This emerging university in the southwestern region of the country has already become a place of trust for students and parents. Under his leadership, this higher institution is playing an important role in education, research and human development at the national and international levels. With the aim of creating unlimited opportunities for education for all sections of society, this university is working specially to ensure education for the deprived, marginalized and talented population. Introduction. The graduates of this university are now engaged in higher education and research in the country and abroad. In recognition of this special contribution to the field of education, he won the Jagrata Shiksha Award in 2023.
Moreover, he has always given importance to the training of teachers and he himself provides training to teachers. The teachers of this university are pioneers in formulating objective-based curriculum. As per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, all the programs of this university have OBE curriculum. The teachers of Rabindra Maitree University are very much ahead in the field of educational theory and technology-based instructional design. In this context, Mr. Mofrad Hosne, a teacher in the Department of Business Administration, said, “Since joining this university, I have participated in all the training programs under the supervision of Professor Dr. Zahurul Islam. Following his path, I currently try to follow Mayer’s 12 principles of using multimedia in classroom teaching. I feel more comfortable with this than before and get positive feedback from the students. This is a very enjoyable part of my teaching life.” Mr. Pradeep Saha, a teacher in the Department of Fine Arts, said, “A natural extension of my journey at Rabindra Maitree University was to participate in the online refresher course (9th refresher course) organized by IQAC on June 10, 2024. This training course was conducted in a synchronous mode from the USA by Dr. Md. Zahurul Islam. The most impactful part of this training was: “Multimedia Learning and Student Engagement.” In this session, he introduced us to the perspective of modern educational theory and the analytical use of multimedia. Robert Ganier’s “Nine Phenomena of Instruction”, John Keller’s “ARCS Model of Motivation” and Richard Mayer’s “Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning”. These theories were not only information-based, but also relevant and effective.”
Expressing his feelings, he added, “I now try to use projectors, animated videos, digital sketches and interactive content in the classroom. The brilliance that I see in the eyes of students now is undoubtedly the result of that new exposure to multimedia. The classroom is no longer just a place for one-way knowledge distribution; it has become a lively, inquiring and curious space. Students are no longer just listeners – they have become active participants. They ask questions, analyze and think about the content at the end of the class.”
