Tension in Mirpur surrounding Facebook post; Clash of locals with police

 There was tension in Mirpur-13 of the capital due to posting religious insults on Facebook. Locals clashed with the police. According to the police, the incident started after a person’s Facebook post in Kafrul on Sunday evening. When the police went there, there was a chase with the locals. Several people including the police were injured. Police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, a youth was beaten and stabbed for allegedly posting on Facebook. The injured youth is undergoing treatment in police custody. He claimed that someone hacked his Facebook account and posted an anti-Islamic status. Later some locals stabbed him in the stomach over this. Officials in charge of the police said that the locals were explained and removed from the scene. Some people involved in the conflict have been arrested to control the situation. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Dr. Muhit Uddin said, we have tried to calm the locals down. But some opportunists are creating excitement. We have taken the accused into custody. No one is in favor of such a post. I am not myself. But, some are trying to take advantage of the situation by clashing with the police or worsening the law and order situation. He urged everyone to be aware to maintain the stability of the area. Meanwhile, some people protested under the leadership of former member of parliament Sabina Akhtar Tuhin. Various processions marched in different areas around the spot and chanted various slogans in favor of the boat.
