Teesta water is fluctuating near danger zone

Water at Teesta barrage point is fluctuating near the tidal limit due to rise in water level of some rivers in Lalmonirhat.  It has flooded the low-lying areas along the banks and submerged the roads.  At Teesta barrage point around 6 pm on Friday, the Teesta water flowed below 17 meters below the flood line.  Earlier, at 6 am, Teesta water flowed 2 cm above the boundary line.  At 9 am, Teesta’s water flow was recorded at 52.12 meters at the point of Teesta Barrage, the country’s largest irrigation project, which is flowing 3 meters below the flood line.  (Normal 52.15 meters).

Officials of the Water Development Board (PUBO) are on alert by keeping all sluices (44) of the Teesta Barrage open due to the rise and fall of the river water.

Since Thursday (June 29) afternoon, water has flowed 20 cm below the water mark at the Doani barrage point.  As a result, the water pressure in the kiln area is increasing.  Low-lying areas are being flooded.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Asfauddaula said, after flowing above 2 cm in the morning, the water decreased again at 9 am and flowed 3 cm below the flood line.

Hatibandhar Gaddimari UP Chairman Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamal said that 10-12 days ago, Teesta water entered the houses.  About 6 metric tons of rice has been distributed among the water-stressed people in the first round.  The people of Teesta Par are being searched all the time.
