A school teacher named Mani Rani Nag (38) committed suicide on Sunday afternoon due to a family dispute in the Sarail of Brahmanbaria. It is believed that she took the path of suicide after 18 years of turmoil after marriage. Mani is a teacher of Kalishimul Government Primary School in Nag Upazila. She is the only daughter of Ajit Nag of Shahbazpur in the upazila. Her husband is Anik Roy, a photo studio businessman in Aruail upazila. Police arrested her husband after the incident. According to the police and family sources of the deceased, about 18 years ago, Mani Rani Nag was married to Anik Roy, son of Jitu Roy of Sahapara, Aruail Union of the upazila. At the time of marriage, Mani’s father gave furniture worth two lakh rupees to Anik as dowry. Husband Anik started torturing Mani a few days after marriage. After two years of marriage, Mani was appointed as an assistant teacher in Kalishimul Government Primary School. Meanwhile, two daughters were born in their family. Arguments and fights were their daily routine. In these cases, there is litigation between them. The matter was settled through arbitration for the sake of the two girls. However, the family quarrels continued. Mani Nag ate the ‘Kedir Bari’ given in rice after Sunday afternoon. The family members took him to the upazila health complex after noticing the matter. There, the emergency department doctor started treating Mani. In the meantime, husband Anik ran away. After some time Mani Rani Nag died. Sarail police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Emranul Islam said that the police were sent to the hospital after receiving information. Her husband Anik Roy has been arrested. Mani Rani’s body has been sent to the district headquarter hospital morgue for post-mortem.
