The teachers’ association has boycotted all class activities and examinations of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (Paviprabi) demanding the dismissal of the officer accused in the incident of teacher assault. General teachers have been continuously protesting and boycotting class-examination since last Sunday until the accused is punished. Yesterday, Tuesday, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, the teachers’ association held a sit-in program at the main gate of the academic building of the university. Deans of various faculties, departmental chairmen and ordinary teachers spoke in the protest rally held under the chairmanship of Professor Jehad Parvezor, President of Pobiprobi Teachers’ Association and under the supervision of General Secretary Mo Asadujan. The speakers announced to continue the peaceful protest until disciplinary action is taken against the accused officer. Meanwhile, expressing solidarity with the ongoing movement of the teachers’ association, ordinary teachers held a silent protest march in the campus wearing black cloths on their faces under the banner of the combined student coordination council of various faculties. At 11 o’clock in the morning organized by the combined student council from TST Chattar, more than two hundred students wearing black cloths took out a silent procession and circled the main main road of the campus and gathered at the Jaibangla foothills.
Rakibul Hasan, a student of the Faculty of Agriculture, coordinator of the combined student council, said, “I expressed solidarity with the teachers’ movement out of a sense of responsibility to protect the honor of teachers, not because of anyone’s instigation. At any cost, he will not be returned as a student who has been expelled from the campus with the misconduct of the accused officer.
It is to be noted that last Saturday (February 17) at 9:00 PM in the dining room of Krishikunj, Pobiprabir, assistant professor of NFS faculty Nazrul Islam was physically assaulted by a recently appointed teacher, Sheikh Tanjila Dola, by PA Samsul Russell, who abused him in unspeakable language. Assistant Professor Nazrul Islam, who was assaulted, started a peaceful movement with continuous class boycott by giving a 3-day ultimatum to the university authorities to take action against the accused if the incident was reported to the teachers’ association in writing.
Meanwhile, the university authorities have formed a 5-member investigation committee into the incident and asked it to submit a report within 3 working days. The investigation report was not submitted till 4 pm today, the last day of submission of the investigation report. On the other hand, the Officers’ Association also started various activities including secret and public meetings to protect the accused, there is a lot of discontent in the campus.
