Women’s T20 World Cup is finally moving away from Bangladesh? Such indications were received after a virtual meeting of the ICC on Tuesday. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 3 to 20.
A few days after the fall of the government in a student uprising in Bangladesh, a very unstable situation has been seen. Although now the situation is much under control. But teams like Australia, England are always a bit more worried about security.
Recently, Alyssa Healy, the captain of the Australian women’s team, objected to the hosting of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. He called it ‘something wrong’ if the World Cup is held here.
In the meantime, the member-directors present at the ICC board meeting have expressed the opinion that it would not be right to organize this global event in Bangladesh in the current situation. It is believed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has also agreed to abandon the tournament in this situation. However, the name of Bangladesh will remain as the host.
Amid the political turmoil in Bangladesh, discussions were going on whether the tournament could be moved to India. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not agree.
As a result, the ICC did not have much choice. Although Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have expressed interest, the UAE is being kept ahead for a number of reasons. Especially due to the favorable weather there and the similarity with the time zone of Bangladesh, the T20 World Cup is probably going to be held in the United Arab Emirates this year.
