Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees on Wednesday staged a demonstration and blocked the Dhaka–Aricha Highway at Pakiza Mor in Savar, demanding the resignation of the Education Adviser over remarks they described as insulting to students.
The protesters alleged that the Education Adviser had made derogatory comments about students, which they said sparked widespread criticism across the country. They condemned the remarks and called for the adviser’s resignation.
According to the previously announced programme, the students gathered at Pakiza Mor after completing their examinations and occupied the highway from around 2:00 pm. Despite heavy rainfall, they continued the blockade, although some participants left the scene due to the weather.
The demonstration caused severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded and causing significant hardship for commuters.
Later, Masfir, President of Savar Thana Chhatra Dal, along with other leaders and activists of the organization, held discussions with the protesting students. Following the talks, the students agreed to withdraw from the highway and ended their blockade.
Traffic movement gradually returned to normal after the protesters left the road. Drivers and passengers expressed relief as vehicles resumed movement following the end of the blockade.
