Stabbing over land dispute in Barura: 1 dead, 1 injured

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a horrific stabbing over a land dispute in Mirzanagar village of Aganagar union in Barura upazila of Comilla.

The deceased’s name is Rabiul. He is the son of the deceased Chan Mia of Mirzanagar village of the upazila. On the other hand, the injured’s name is Faisal Kabir. He is the son of former UP member Joynal Abedin of ward 5 of Aganagar union. The deceased Rabiul has been kept in the morgue of Comilla Medical Hospital. The injured Faisal Kabir is undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College.

According to local sources, on Wednesday (January 28) at around 10:30 am, Rabiul, Zakir and some others were drinking tea at Shafiq’s tea shop in Puran Pagla Bazar in Mirzanagar area. At that time, due to previous enmity, Rabiul and Faisal were suddenly stabbed from behind. One died on the spot. Faisal Kabir was injured in the same incident.

The injured Faisal Kabir said that Rab, son of deceased Sujat Ali of Mirzanagar village, Nur Nabi and Mohin, son of Alam, Moinal son of Abdur Rab, and Quddus son of Tukku Mia and some others stabbed him indiscriminately. Rabiul lost his life during the attack. The accused fled immediately after the incident.

Delwar Hossain, elder brother of deceased Rabiul, said, “My brother was killed through theft over family and land-related issues.”

Locals also said that there had been a dispute and tension between the two parties over a religious gathering held in the village for a long time. There was also a land-related dispute. It is believed that this brutal murder took place due to these disputes.
Upon receiving the information, Barura Police Station quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Barura Police Station OC Azharul Islam said that those involved in the incident have been initially identified and a drive is underway to arrest them. The body of the deceased Rabiul has been sent to Comilla Medical College for autopsy.

There is extreme tension in Mirzanagar village and surrounding areas following the incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.
