Khulud Al-Fadli, a female environmental activist in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has officially entered the Guinness World Records for creating the world’s largest mural using green plastic bottle caps, the symbol of Saudi Arabia.
The mural covers an area of 383 square meters, and uses 5 lakh plastic bottle caps.
Environmental activist Khulud Al-Fadli, a Saudi teacher by profession, took eight months to create the mural in collaboration with students from Green Leaves School, which aims to save the environment by reducing and reusing plastic.
Al-Fadli submitted a wealth of evidence to Guinness World Records, including video footage, data and witness statements.
Earlier in 2021, Al-Fadli registered the world’s largest map-making initiative using plastic covers as a 250-square meter, record-breaking world map created using 350,000 plastic bottle caps.
The certificate for Al-Fadli’s achievement was handed over at a special ceremony on the Jeddah Corniche in the presence of Guinness World Records and Jeddah Municipality officials and members of his family, school and community.
The plastic caps for the mural were collected as a community effort with contributions from school students, family, friends and a growing number of plastic bottle cap donors.
Al-Fadli’s students helped create a mosaic mural and learned the importance of recycling plastic in the process.
