The government of Saudi Arabia has announced to give citizenship to immigrants and the country has also passed a law for this.  Recently, the Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the law based on the proposal of the country’s interior minister.
The passing of this law was revealed on the official Twitter account of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, citing the Ministry of Interior of Saudi Arabia.
In January this year, the country issued a decree amending Article 8 of the Saudi Citizenship Law, which was approved on March 13.  The amendment said that anyone whose mother is a Saudi citizen and whose father is a foreigner can apply for Saudi citizenship.  But he must be fluent in Arabic.  Conditions imposed include being of good character and behavior and not having a prison record of more than six months.
Many rights activists in the country expressed concern over the reform of the law.  They said this law will become a bigger obstacle for the citizenship of the children of Saudi women.  Currently, the children of any Saudi male residing abroad are granted citizenship without any legal barriers.
It should be noted that in 2021, Saudi Arabia announced to give citizenship to a special talented person from any part of the world.  The country is said to have taken such an initiative as part of making the process of granting citizenship easier.
