RAB-9 Srimangal arrested Kalon Mia (43), the leader of the inter-district bandit group and the mastermind of the sensational robbery case, in connection with the robbery of an army man’s house in Kamalganj. He is the son of late Gani Mia of Sreepur village in Islampur union of Kamalganj upajlo. There are several cases of weapons, theft and robbery in the name of the arrested robber in different police stations of Moulvibazar district. It is reported that on the evening of November 6, four masked men entered the residence of Sunil Singh, an army member (formerly working in RAB) of Paschim Baghbari village of Madhavpur union of Kamalganj upazila, posing as DB police. At that time, his old father Chandra Singh (75), mother Krishnakumari Sinha (55), aunt Rajkumari Sinha (50) were held at gunpoint and their hands and feet were tied and their gold ornaments, mobile sets and cash were looted. On their screams, the locals came forward and found them tied inside the house.
This incident caused a storm of discussion through the media. RAB-9, Sylhet started a shadow investigation of this sensational robbery incident and intensified intelligence activities. At one stage of the investigation, with the help of information technology and based on intelligence information, the location of the robbers was identified. It was informed through press briefing from Rapid Action Battalion-9 Sylhet headquarters last November 12 evening. RAB members arrested the dacoit Sardar Kalan Mia involved in the incident 6 days after Sunil Singh’s father filed a complaint in the name of two unknown persons at Kamalganj police station on November 7.
