The 56th Independence and National Day was celebrated with due dignity in Pirojpur. On this occasion, the speakers at the reception and discussion meeting organized by the district administration to honor the brave freedom fighters expressed their strong determination to build an exploitation-free, democratic and justice-based Bangladesh.
The program was held at the Shaheed Omar Faruk Auditorium on Thursday (March 26) afternoon under the chairmanship of Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed. Pirojpur-1 MP Masud Sayeed was present as the chief guest at the program. District Police Superintendent Md. Manzur Ahmed Siddiqui, District Council Administrator Alamgir Hossain and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Pirojpur District Unit Command convener Bir Muktijoddha Ahmed Shahidul Haque spoke as special guests.
In his speech as the chief guest, Masud Sayedee said, “The independent identity we are talking about today is all due to the contribution of the brave freedom fighters. We have found our identity today because you gifted us the red-green flag.” He further mentioned that the current generation has brought an end to the fascist rule through the July Revolution by embracing the same spirit that the brave freedom fighters had when they responded to the call for independence of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
Speakers at the meeting alleged that the country’s democratic environment had been destroyed during the past 17 years of rule. The main goal now is to build a prosperous Bangladesh by utilizing the new environment that the country has regained today through the mass uprising of students and the public.
Among others who spoke at the event were District BNP Member Secretary Saidul Islam Kismat, District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Md. Zahirul Haque, Hero Muktijoddha Solaiman Mallick (Bir Pratik), Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Pirojpur District Unit Command Member Secretary Hero Muktijoddha Abdur Razzak Munan, Hero Muktijoddha Abdus Salam Baten, Hero Muktijoddha Gazi Nuruzzaman Babul’s proud son Gazi Kamruzzaman Shuvro, and local leaders.
At the beginning of the program, floral greetings were offered to the brave freedom fighters and martyred family members, and at the end, honors were given to the martyred family.
