Rajapur in Social Service Day celebrated

Rajapur (Jhalakathi) Correspondent: A colorful rally and discussion meeting was held on Saturday (January 3) morning on the occasion of Social Service Day at the initiative of the Upazila Administration and Upazila Social Service of Rajapur Upazila of Jhalakathi.
A rally started from the Upazila Parishad premises and circled the important roads of the city and ended in front of the Upazila Administration building. Later, a discussion meeting was held.
Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Mozammel presided over the program with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Upazila Livestock Officer Md. Abdullah was present as the chief guest.
This year’s theme was –
“Technology and compassion, welfare and equality in today’s social service” In his speech as the chief guest, Upazila Livestock Officer Abdullah said that social service activities are playing an important role in improving the quality of life of people. It is possible to make social service more effective and sustainable with the proper use of technology and a humane approach. He called on everyone to work together to stand by the helpless and disadvantaged people of the society.
Union Social Service Officer Md. Zakir Hossain highlighted the various activities of the Department of Social Services and said that a total of 57 activities are currently being conducted under the Department of Social Services across the country. Out of these, 22 activities are ongoing in Rajapur Upazila and 19 activities are being implemented. Notable activities include providing old age allowance, widow allowance, disability allowance and allowance to the transgender community.
He further said that the Social Service Department is working for the welfare of about 1 lakh 58 thousand 180 people of Rajapur Upazila. A maximum of 5 thousand taka financial assistance is being provided for the treatment of cancer patients. In addition, medical assistance is also being provided to patients suffering from other complex diseases.
The discussion meeting was addressed by the heroic freedom fighter retired Sergeant Md. Altaf Hossain, SID representative Syed Ahmed Kamal, journalist Kamrul Islam Rana. Journalist Kamrul Islam Rana, in his speech, called on those concerned to play a responsible role in ensuring that the medical aid money is properly distributed among genuine and deserving patients.
Officers and employees of various departments of Rajapur Upazila administration were present at the event. The entire event was hosted by JICA officer Imran.
