In Kazipur, the knee-deep clear water that has accumulated for a long time in the premises of the Assistant Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering has become a breeding ground for dengue.

Areas submerged in water for most of the year are waist-deep in weeds because they are not cleaned regularly. In this way, aware people think that there is indifference of the organization instead of increasing public awareness to control the ongoing dengue situation. Waterlogging occurs due to rising water in relatively low lying areas and nearby pondsAccording to the concerned authorities.
Despite years of waterlogging, no initiative has been taken.
It can be seen on the ground on Sunday, October 8, that the two-storey building of the assistant engineer’s office of the Department of Public Health and Engineering, adjacent to Meghai Naval Port and Vir Mukti Joddha Mohammad Nasim Tourist Center in Sadar Union of Kazipur Upazila, is very old, the ground floor godown and the two floor office are being used for water drainage. Due to lack of provision, the area in front and back of the building is covered with weeds and waterlogged throughout the monsoon season, the goods stored on the ground floor are submerged in more than 3 feet of water.

Ahad Ali (45), a local resident, said that dengue infestation may increase as important places are waterlogged, and the locals are at risk. Shopkeeper Mokchedul said that because there is a road on three sides of the building and a pile of sand on one side, the water cannot rise, the risk to the locals is increasing.
Ahsan Habib, assistant engineer of Kazipur Public Health Directorate, said that there has been waterlogging here for the past 3 years, as it is adjacent to the Yamuna river, no initiative has been taken to renovate or construct a new building, sometimes bleaching powder is sprinkled.

Kazipur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Momena Parveen said that as the ground floor of the Public Health Engineering Building is submerged in water, the sewage water will mix with the environment and pollute the environment. Dengue mosquitoes have spread in every village of the upazila. Apart from this, medical services are being provided at the health complex.

It is to be noted that the number of dengue patients in Kazipur is increasing day by day, about 10 to 12 new patients are being admitted every day, also 23 dengue patients are currently admitted and receiving treatment in the upazila health complex.
