The victims held a press conference to protest the oppression, torture and terrorist acts of Abbas Howlader, the leader of the Muladi Upazila Awami League, one of the fascist allies.
Swapan Sardar read out a written statement from the victims in the hall of the Barisal Press Club on Monday (July 28) at 12 noon.
In a written statement, Swapan Sardar said, Muladi Upazila Awami League leader Abbas Hawladar, a follower of former Barisal City Mayor Seniyabat Sadiq Abdullah, an ally of fascism, has established a reign of terror in Muladi Upazila. He has built a terrorist force. Many have been subjected to various tortures, including attacks and lawsuits, if they go against his views.
He said that Monir Howlader, the disabled son of A. Salam Howlader of the Charkamishan area of Muladi upazila, was brutally killed by Abbas Howlader and his terrorist gang on May 24, 2022. Abbas Howlader put pressure on the family of the deceased and filed a false murder case against 11 BNP leaders and activists. The plaintiff in the case, Parvez Howlader, the brother of the deceased, has appealed to the CID chief to get justice. In 2023, Shahin Howlader, a daily wage worker of the Charkamishan area, was beaten up and his hands and legs were broken over a trivial incident. His hands and legs were not broken. He was not even allowed to receive treatment in any government hospital. Abbas Howlader used various threats and pressure to prevent him from taking any legal action in the incident.
In his written statement, he also said that in September 2023, Nasir was beaten and threatened for criticizing former PS Additional Secretary Harun Biswal, one of the allies of fascism, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Then, he forcibly took away two of his Mahindras and an auto. Abbas Hawlader. On May 10, 2024, Emdadul Haque Sohel, a resident of Charkamishan area, blocked his way to Dhaka at night and hit him with a hammer, destroying one of his eyes. In this incident, the victim filed a case at Muladi Police Station, but did not get any redress.
During the previous Awami League regime, the common people of Mirganj were fed up with the terrorist activities of Abbas Howlader. Even though the Awami League collapsed on August 5, Abbas Howlader’s terrorist activities did not stop. On March 25, 2025, when Shaon Howlader, the member secretary of Muladi Municipality Jubo Dal, was going to his house with his family, Abbas Howlader attacked him with his own terrorist force at the Mirganj ferry ghat. Although a case was filed in the incident, the administration did not take any legal action against Abbas Howlader. On June 27, 2025, when Shihab Peshka, a prominent industrialist of the Traffic Commissioner, was leaving for Dhaka from his house, Abbas Howlader blocked the road with his terrorist force and attacked. A case is ongoing in the Muladi police station in this incident. On 24/07/2025, Abbas Howlader publicly beat up A. Rahman, a resident of Charkhamsin, in broad daylight and stole 15,300 taka from him. The victim filed a complaint at Muladi Police Station in that incident, but did not receive any redress.
Although the Awami League collapsed on August 5, Abbas Howlader did not. Terrorist activities continue. The victims strongly demanded that the law enforcement agencies arrest Abbas Howlader and bring him to justice.
When asked for a statement on this issue, Abbas Hawlader’s mobile phone was called several times, but his statement could not be obtained.
