Bangladesh Teachers Association held a press conference in Noakhali to demand the nationalization of secondary education. On Monday (June 19) afternoon, the press conference was organized by Bangladesh Teachers Association (BTA) Noakhali District Branch in a hall of Harinarayanpur Union High School in the district city. General Secretary Md. Harun Or Rashid’s news script was read by the organization’s district branch president and central vice-president Md. Abul Kasem. He said, 5% people of this country are getting the benefits of freedom in the field of education. The remaining 95% are deprived of the benefits and there is a mountain disparity between government and private teaching staff in terms of financial benefits. Nationalization of secondary education will not only benefit the teachers but also the students and parents. This is our demand to ensure equal rights of people of all professions. The education policy of the country will be one and the same. Majority of the educational institutions of the country are being run by private teachers-employees belonging to MPOs. There we MPO teachers get only Tk 1,000 house rent, 25 percent festival allowance and Tk 500 medical allowance. This teacher leader gave a stern warning to hold a continuous sit-in strike in front of the National Press Club from July 11, 2023, if the nationalization of secondary schools is not announced before the national budget is passed in the fiscal year 2023-24.
