On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of jatrik Natyak Group Comilla, the president of the organization Hasan Imam Majumdar Fatik exchanged views with the journalists working in Comilla yesterday at 11:00 on July 6 at 11 a.m. about the work plan of the next year and the past activities of the organization for 50 years.
He said in his speech, Comilla is foremost among the districts in Bangladesh that have cultural heritage to be proud of. As Greater Comilla has given birth to world famous classical music gurus, Comilla has been home to many eminent personalities in other fields of culture as well. As a result of the continuous practice, Comilla became one of the cradles of culture.
As a result, on June 23, 1975, the jatrik Natyak Group started its journey with the hands of 9 theater lovers. In the meantime, founding members Hafizur Rahman Gedu, Shariful Abedin Haroon, Mozammel Haque, Ahmed Golam Mostafa, Nazimuddin Ahmed Khosru, Manju Chakraborty and Iftekhar Ahmed Sharif have left us to the land of no return. Even today, the founder members Md. Hasim Abu and Giyas Uddin Ahmed have kept a shadow.
The pilgrimage started with the 1st and 2nd staging of the drama ‘Subchan Nirbasane’ on 7th and 8th August 1975 at Birchandra Nagar Auditorium, Comilla. Jatrik has crossed 50 years since its establishment. This long-running program includes 11 theater festivals, 9 production-based theater workshops, 3 theater seminars and 306 stagings of 53 plays.
In 1976 and 1980, jatrik participated in the National Drama Festival held in Dhaka. Besides, Comilla represents Comilla in theater festivals or invitations of various districts including Rangpur, Dinajpur, Chandpur, Barisal, Feni, Rangamati, Bogra, Cox’s Bazar.
Recently on November 11, 2022 under the patronage of Honorable Member of Parliament of Comilla A.K.M Bahauddin Bahar, Yatrik Bharat staged the play “Shaanti” in Agartala and won great acclaim.
The drama “Mahiyasi Nawab Faizunnessa” based on the life and work of Nawab Faizunnessa, the pioneer of Comilla’s pride and women’s awakening, was staged at the invitation of Dhaka Shilpakala Academy and gained quite a reputation. In the meantime, invitations have been received from Agartala and Calcutta in India to stage the play “Mahiyasi Nawab Faizunnecha”.
Notable plays staged by Yatrik so far are Subachan Nirbasane, Vidyalankar Press, Boudi’s Marriage, All Around War, Ora Kadam Ali, Shanti, Decorated Bagan, Nahabat, Football, Ghazi Kal Champavati, I Will Be Minister, Waiting for Public War, Barf Gala Nadi, Nazrul’s Nargis. Pramila and Mahiyasi Nawab Faizunnessa.
Jatrik has undertaken various year-long action plans to mark its 50th anniversary. These include – distressed
Distribution of seasonal fruits among the patients, felicitated and dedicated organizers in Comilla,
Organization of production-based drama workshops, seminars on drama, with the participation of children and adolescents.
Organized plays, organized commemorative events in the cultural arena in memory of the late accomplished people of Ujjal Comilla,
Organized meet-up fairs of Comilla’s cultural workers, organized recitation-allo-set and make-up workshops, staged dramas in India outside the country and organized theater festivals to mark the 50th anniversary of the pilgrimage. In addition, there will be shadow plays and shruti plays, which are almost lost in Comilla, in this event.
