Md. Abdul Salam was appointed to the post of Ambulance Driver of Patuakhali 250 bed General Hospital. Within about four months of being assigned to the hospital, he occupied a two-unit quarter and a room in front of the emergency department. After investigation, it is known that foreign college students are taking huge amount of money every month by renting illegally from the youth. Also, goat and poultry farms have been set up in two units of one-storey staff quarters adjacent to the hospital and illegal electricity connections are being used in the quarters with no billing meters. Driver Abdul Salam has been living with his family in a unit of the staff quarters which uses electric fans, fridges, bulbs and televisions. Payment of electricity bills for the said quarter is done by the accounts department of the hospital which is out of order. The whole matter was communicated with the ambulance driver Abdul Salam, he said, I have been appointed as a driver in the hospital five months ago, the hospital authority has given me two units of this building to live in. Moreover, I pay the electricity bill used in my house, he told the reporter.
